Developing Bi Cultural Skills and Knowledge
We can advise on a range of readily available and often free or inexpensive resources to support development. We also offer a range of highly practical and interactive workshops to support managers and staff to grow awareness, knowledge and understanding. Most importantly, we customise the workshops to your needs so that they focus on applying the knowledge to the work of the team.
Workshops
We offer workshops in cultural competency. The interactive workshop is designed to assist you to build organisational and individual cultural competency. The workshop can be customised to reflect your existing competency framework if required. Topics commonly covered are:
- Te Reo Māori at an introductory level, greetings and everyday phrases
- Integrating spoken and written Māori language to your work
- Cultural concepts that underpin the processes of establishing and maintaining successful relationships with Māori groups and individuals

Applying the Treaty Of Waitangi/Te Tiriti O Waitangi To Your Work
The practical workshop helps you to understand how the treaty is relevant to your work. It provides a simple framework to help you link your core work directly to Treaty Articles and Principles and also provides an opportunity to identify other possible linkages. Topics covered are:
- The treaty articles most relevant for your work
- The treaty principles most relevant for your work
- Explore opportunities to enhance your delivery of effective services for Māori
This workshop does not cover history and background of the Treaty unless you specifically request it.
Participating confidently in Tikanga Māori
This practical workshop can be customised to meet your unique needs and commonly covers the following topics:
- Understanding and participating in formal welcoming protocols - Pōwhiri
- Understanding and participating in informal welcoming protocols - Mihi whakatau
- Constructing your own greetings and personal introductions - Mihimihi and pepeha to use in a variety of different work contexts
